Space Elevators

A space elevator made of a carbon nanotubes composite ribbon anchored to an offshore sea platform would stretch to a small counterweight approximately 62,000 miles (100,000 km) into space. Mechanical lifters attached to the ribbon would then climb the ribbon, carrying cargo and humans into space, at a price of only about $100 to $400 per pound ($220 to $880 per kg).

Window Phone

Already known for his works designer Seunghan Song has presented next concept of a mobile phone – Window Phone.
The idea of phone in the form of a window has come to the author mind after the next error of meteorologists’ error when instead of the promised clear day behind a window poured a rain.
Concept represents completely transparent phone which display symbolizes a windowpane and displays current weather. This “Window Phone” should be absolutely transparent. But it is only in good sunny weather.

In other cases, it can be hardly steamy (when it is a fog), all in drops (when a rain), in hoarfrost (when it is a glaze ice).

The mode of hand-written SMS on the steamy glass can be caused also by blowing on the display.

The only fault in this phone is that its appearance, if should be, will be absolutely not fast. The concept will be hardly realized in the real device.

The Witness Watch by Hay HEUN

The concept of the strange kind, intended for those who hates to wear standard watch.
The novelty can look as improbably stylish watch, but it has precisely borrowed something from an older technology. This watch reminds an old sundial. For certain many people cannot understand time on such watch at all. For those who cannot understand time in a sundial, it is necessary to study even before purchase of such device.

The watch has been developed by the person by name Hay Heun. The figure exhibited on the watch is actually copy of the shadow created on the sun dial throughout the day by the movement of the sun. Witness is a concept timepiece that was built to demonstrate the unavoidable relationship between the eyes and the time has been totally inspired by the human eye. The two bright red LED rings that you see are replicates of the pupil and the iris. They move in synchronized motions to depict the time. It also has a power saving mode. The power button on the side will power it up and light up the display for five seconds, then shifting it to standby mode thus using only 35% of LED power. Like eyes that witness the transitions of times, the Witness Watch watches moments slip by.

The most expected technical novelties of 2009

BusinessWeek Magazine recommends to pay special attention in 2009 on following expected novelties: Windows 7 from Microsoft; Snow Leopard from Apple; and also on phones Motorola and other smart phones on platform Google Android.

Even if the next year also will not be less terrible, than present, writes magazine, it is possible to guarantee that in the technology’s field will be many interetsed news. The large quantity of novelties in 2009, according to observer BusinessWeek, will appear in that sphere which last years not too pleased with news – in sphere of the software for personal computers.

New operating systems

Both Microsoft, and Apple have planned presentations of operating systems the next months. New program Microsoft Windows 7 officially should appear not earlier than the end of next year, and even in the the beginning of 2010.

However, receding from tradition, Microsoft, apparently, intend to begin deliveries of a new operating system ahead of schedule. Manufacturers of computers inform that plan to establish the newest Windows on the laptops and desktops in already next autumn. According to experts, Windows 7 though does not represent anything “supernatural”, and only is what should be Vista, occurrence of this OS very opportunely.

About operating system Apple Snow Leopard it is known less. One of few facts divulged by this company inclined to reserve about the sixth version of program Mac OS X, it that it can work on multiprocessor systems. In the world where while very few programs use the modern advanced microprocessors on a total power, it is very important.

At first these expanded functions will be mainly used by the users who are carrying out operations on whom the big capacity, such as works with video data or performance of design works is required. However with the time it can apply other people too.

Laptops

The stunning success of the minilaptops was one of the main surprises of 2008. The Taiwan company ASUS has begun this tendency, having started in sale popular model EeePC. Now the majority of the companies has versions of these compact laptops with monitors in width in 9-10 inches and the price from $350 to $700.

Probably, next year these computers equipped with modems, will be on sale in the West as phones – when providers of Internet communication will offer them with the big discounts under condition of the contract conclusion.

Mobile Internet devices

Next year also, probably, will have development other type of mobile devices – devices with the touch screen in width about 7 inches. Intel now advances these “mobile Internet devices”, however production on the basis of Windows from such companies as Samsung and Sony, too desperately struggles for the place in the market.

“A black horsy” in this running could become existing while in the form of hearings super-iPhone from Apple. But as it usually happens to hearings about Apple, we learn true not earlier, than Steve Jobs will decide to tell us.

Smart phones, certainly, remain in 2009 in the attention centre though, possibly, novelties will appear not with such feverish speed, as this year. It is a lot of attention, possibly, will involve in itself new phones from Motorola and other smart phones on platform Google Android.

Microsoft too will present the software version for smart phones, possibly, it will be the intermediate version long-awaited Windows Mobile 7.

It is interesting and announced Korean LG watch mobile phone LG-GD910 executed in the form of a watch with the 1,43-inch touch colour liquid crystal display.

Phone can work in networks of the third generation, is able to synthesise speech from the text, supports Bluetooth and a vocal set, and also can be used as a MP3-player.
